  1. We have five forges in the Bodyke, Tuamgraney parish:
Two are at the extreme limits of the parish
one at Scariff bridge and one in Annaghneal just near the Tull, Bodyke, Feakle border.
On is in the village of Tuamgraney -
and two are in Bodyke Village - almost.
Pat Lerhiff had a forge in Scariff -
70 years ago. And was a great Smith, very strong and powerful. He used to set a charm to cure Pharsey in horses and it is told he used to get often a most violent pain (this in punishment of charm)
Just a little aside from this, I often heard that if a priest cured you of a disease it would fall on some relative belonging to himself. Tom Lahiff, so to Pat was a Smith after his father's death which was rather sudden.
He died suddenly going home from mass one Sunday - heart failure.
His son now has the forge and a travelling Smith who worked for years in the Bodyke forge told me he would never be any good "it" was not in him (the gift).
This man who worked with Tommie Browne was named Bill Rutledge from Wexford.
