- There lived a man in the mountains of Glandree and he went by the name of Square Cooney. He had four sons and at the time there were not any school teachers except an odd night school that used to be held at the risk of the teachers being arrested. One of these boys travelled around as a poor scholar seeking education from place to place. As a rule he put up more in the city than in any other place. At that time every stamp that would go on a letter was a shilling and then it was seldom or never he used to write to his parents. He was gentle and kind in his manners and for that reason he was liked by everybody. He travelled along from place to place until he reached the city of Dublin. There he found the people very hospitable. As he was walking around the city one evening in the month of December he chanced to meet the great Lord Harris who was by birth and Englishman, and this great Lord was much taken(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
