“Tulla was named among the parishes in the diocese of Killaloe in 1302.”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Sometime after 1421 a castle was built by Sean MacNamara, Lord of Clancuillean in which he lived. Traces of the wall of the castle may still be seen in the north-west corner of the old grave-yard.
In 1611 the "Termon lands" granted by Maccon MacNamara to the church were seized. The church was in good repair in 1615; it was in a ruinous condition in 1693. Could it be possible that when the "Termon lands" were seized, this church was also seized and used for Protestant service, in 1611, as well as the Termon lands," for in the year 1700 the present ruin was built by the Protestants and completed in 1702. This Protestant church was abandoned in the year 1812 when the present Protestant church was built. The seizure of this church & Termon lands in 1611 may synchronise with the building of the Catholic church on the site of the present Boys' School.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
