Ar an leathanach seo
- Potatoes are grown on our farm. There is about an acre and half sown under them each year. There is manure spread on the ground before it is turned up. The potatoes are usually sown in drills. Before the drills are made the ground is ploughed and harrowed and then the drills are opened. It is an iron plough that is used. Long ago wooden ploughs were used, but none of them are to be had now.
The potatoes are cut and a couple of eyes or bud left on each seed. They are left lying for a couple of days and there are ashes thrown on them to dry them. Then they are dropped on the manure that is spread in the drills. And the drills are closed.
In July the stalks are sprayed once or twice, to keep the blight off them and later on they are grubbed and moulded. When October comes they are ready for digging. Sometimes they are dug(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
