- About the year 1917 a great frost storm occurred. All the ponds, lakes and even the rivers were frozen. A story is told of a man named Tommy Irwin, a tailor who lived at Balldian bridge. He used to walk frequently on the ice in Balladian river into Ballybay. After walking a considerable number of times, the ice broke and down he went to the bottom of the river and was drowned. In the October of 1839 a very strong wind arose. Trees, post and even the dead were rooted up. About half way between Drum and Clones in Drumswords graveyard four corpses were raised out of the graves. My grandmother told that when she lived in a slated house on Ednanea hill the wind rose so high that it stripped the roof clean off. Then the curtains flapped upwards among the broken laths. It was indeed a sad sight(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
