  1. A great number of marriages used to be held on Shrove Tuesday long ago.
    There is a rhyme which says :- "Monday for health. Tuesday for wealth. Wednesday the best day of all. Thursday for losses. Friday for crosses and Saturday no luck at all."
    Money was usually given as a fortune, sometimes cattle and other kinds of stock were given.
