    Thatching
    The things required for thatching are: wheaten straw, scallops and a thatching knife.
    The straw must be drawn on an iron rake and made into sheaves. The scallops are made from sallies cut and pointed. They are stuck into a small bundle of tied up straw called a "garsoon." This is used to hold the scallops when the thatcher is at work on the roof.
    Thatching is a trade in itself. A thatcher's pay is about five shillings a day and his keep - at the present time. First of all the reed must be "switched" on a large stone to take all the wheat out of it, then drawn through a rake to take all the
