- One night in the month of January in the year eighteen thirty nine there was a great wind known as the Big Wind.It was the most terrifying storm that ever was known in Ireland. The wind blew with with the rapidity of a hurricane.
The roar of the storm was terrifying and what added to the terror of the storm was the night was very dark. So loud was the noise that a person roaring a foot away could not be heard.
The big trees were uprooted and carried away. The fish were blown out of the rivers.
And sea birds that never go farther than the shore were to be seen as far inland(continues on next page)- Collector
