1. Churning

   Our churn at home is 2' 3" tall and the top 1 ft 6 ins wide and the bottom 1' 8". The bottom the sides the lid the lugan the dash and the wabler are the principal parts.
   Butter is made three times in Summer each week and twice in Winter. My father and mother churn. Strangers who come in help. They say "God bless the work" and then as they ask for the dash they say "Wait until I leave the size of my head of butter on it" My mother does not allow any person to take a drink or to smoke while the churn is been done as it "keeps back" the churn. She also shakes a pinch of salt over the lid to keep any witches from stealing the butter.
   At Hallow Eve and Christmas also May Eve she gives butter and buttermilk as: presents to her poor
