- There are two forges in the district of Ballyrahan. One of them is owned by a man named Doran and the other is owned by a man named Keogh. The man named Doran has his forge near the side of the road. His people have not been always smiths. He does not make farm implements. His forge is covered with boards and tarred felt. There is only one fireplace in it. His tools are a sledge a hammer, a chisel and a pincers. The smith shoes horses and asses. Smiths are looked upon as being very strong. The man named Keogh has his forge situated near a crossroads. His forge is covered with slates. There are two fireplaces in his forge. He shoes horses and asses. He does not make any farm implements. There is a bellows in the forge to blow the fire. There is a handle to blow the bellows. There are weights to weigh it down. To make a shoe he reddens the iron in the fire then he makes a shoe and then he puts it in water to cool it and then(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
