- (continued from previous page)in it. My townsland is situated about two miles from the town of Dunlavin,
Uppertown derived its name from being situated at the upper end of the town of Dunlavin, There are five or six ruins of different houses in my district. and the people who lived in them all dead with no relations succeeding them.
The houses now in my district are roofed with slaters and with tiles, and are mostly single storeyed, The oldest person living there is not more than sixty three years of age. None of them can speak Irish, but most of them can tell English stories, and the most noted of them are, as follows,
Mr Edward Copeland Uppertown,
Mr Timothy Grace Uppertown and Mr James Deegan Uppertown,
The land of Uppertown is fair and level, and the largest wood is owned by Mr T Grace it covers about an acre of land, There are also a few ponds and one of them are called the wooden house pond and the reason it is called that is because there was a wooden house(continues on next page)- Collector
