- An Old SchoolAbout two miles outside Riverstown there was an old National School about eighty years ago. The pupils were taught by two masters "Mr Grogan and Mr. Gallagher". The teachers lodged in the houses of the district. They lodged in a house owned by Mr. Wallis. The rich people of the district gave the teachers a few shillings every month and the poor people gave them nothing. The pupils were taught English, Latin, Greek and grammar. The writing was done with a quill pen. The children used to bring straw to sit on. There was no blackboard in the school but the teachers used to write on a table made of stone. The needlework was taught by Miss O'Meara who was educated in a college(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
