  1. The townland of Ballymacoolahan is in the barony of Cloghan-Castle. It is about two miles from the church and school. It consists of ten houses and forty two people. The Madden's are the most common name in my district. The land is fairly rich. There are about one hundred and fifty acres of land altogether. The houses are neatly kept and they consist of two bedrooms a kitchen and a parlour. They are nearly all thatched except one or two. There was about twenty houses in my townland before the famine but now the ruins of them are not to be seen.
