  1. The townland of Newtown is in the barony of Cloghan-Castle.
It is a mile and a half from the church and school.
It consists of ten houses and they are very neatly kept. They are nearly all thatched and whitewashed. They consist of two bedrooms, a parlour and a kitchen.
Before the famine there were about twenty houses but now they are in ruins. The oldest person is Mr. Quirke he is eighty years of age.
