  1. Cruic- na -Mallacht is the name of a little hill situated in the centre of the townland of Tinnashrule and about one and a half miles to the north side of Ferns.
    The meaning of the name is -
    the hill of the curses; cruic being a form of old Irish in Ulster, meaning hill.
    How the hill got it's name is well known to all living near it, as it was handed down from generation to generation along with more valuable historical information.
    It was from this hill that Oliver Cromwell shelled and demolished the centre of Ferns and its fortifications, in or about the year 1641.
    The ruins of the old castle are still standing, but only a
