    "Bon-fire Night"
In olden times it was the custom to light a huge fire on St John's Eve. On one occasion when the fire had been lighted and songs and dancing were being merrily carried on about it, the fuel ran short and some few went off in search of more. One went to a wood and another to a grove, and the third who was not succeeding very well entered an old cemetary and having gatered up many little wooden crosses she hurried off to the bon-fire and piled on her load. Then the dancing was resumed but to the awe and astonishment of the onlookers the unlucky girl was taken in a whirlwind and was never heard of any more.
