  1. When Cromwell took Wexford he marched up to the Friary Chapel and ordered every friar to be put to death but the friars had heard of his remark and they went down to the side of the chapel where a square hole was that led down to the quay. They went down this and some swam across but some were drowned. The hole they escaped by is now to be seen at the present day down by Common Quay Street.
