  1. In the year 1848 there was an old dwelling house on Forth Mountain in which a man named Mac Dermot taught the children of the locality. they read from primers and the writing materials were slates and slate pencils. No Irish was taught in this school. This teacher was from the district and he taught the children for charity.
There were no desks only forms and one long table on which the teacher kept his books.
