  1. I obtained the material for this composition from my Father: -
    Mr P. Hayes,
    Sleedagh,
    Murrintown.
    Over fifty years ago a football team of great fame was in the district of Kilmannon. Selected men from the parish of Rathangan constituted the team. The fame and reputation of this team will go down in local history. I those days twenty one players composed the team, only two of the team referred to are now living - John Simpson Kilmannon and Nicholas Walsh, Brideswell; all the others have passed away.
    Footballing in those days was not played on the same scientific lines as nowadays.
    Greater strength and endurance was required.
