Poem written on the wreck of the "Mexico"
    Feb 20th 1913.
(Nine of the crew of the Fethard life-boat were killed and drowned in a gallant attempt to save the crew of the "Mexico")
    I
The heart of gallant Wexford now throbs fast with sad, sad pride
Her nine brave noble-hearted sons like heroes they have died
At duty's call they left their homes to bring the strangers aid
Of brave unselfish sons like these our history had been made
    II.
They swerved not that the sea should rage and roll in mountains high
They swerved not that the storm should howl-they heard but one loud cry
"Save, save the shipwrecked sailors at Keerogh's rugged strand"
And through the roaring angry waves rowed fast that gallant band.
    III
But ere the twilight shadows fell on hill and dale and lea
Ere peaceful Fethard's brilliant lights shone out across the sea
Disaster met this valiant crew! Oh, cruel rock and wave
Ye're blushing-blushing with the blood of teh bravest of the brave!
    IV.
But, braver still, if braver be, were those were those that did survive
With floods on floods of anguish in their hearts, yet they contrive
To save the shipwrecked sailors-'twas for this their comrades died
Nor did they budge till every man was from the doomed ship's side!
    V.
And while the world, admiring, praise this gallant deed of deeds,
While e'en from far-off Norway's shores & Royal message speeds
Our orphaned children piteous cry-their widowed mothers moan!
Brave Wexford saved Norwegian's sons tho' she had lost her own.
