The morning of his trial day it would grieve your heart full sore
To see his poor aged mother it would grieve you ten times more
She reared a son a clergyman and his age scarce twenty-three
That he should be put down in his prime by cruel perjury.
The judge says "Now Fr. Tom, why dont you marry this fair
I hear she is an equal for any lord or squire."
Then Fr. Tom spoke up and says "I have no witness here
But I will call on the Almighty, He can show my cause quite clear
I said I would never marry her or will she ever be my wife
I never knew a female from a man in all my life
Well Tom since you wont marry her I will have you to understand
That seven years you will be transported into a foreign land.
"The case is bad but it could be worse" then Fr. Tom did say
"Our Saviour suffered more than that He died on Calvary"
Those words were scarce well spoken when a horse came swift as wind
On him was a rider saying "I was not here in time
Call that trial on again and I shall set him free
She wants two fathers for her child that Fr. Tom and me
The day her babe was born she gave me £100
The day her babe was christened she gave me £300 more for to never to let on
She wants two fathers for her child that is me and Fr. Tom
Then Fr. Tom took off his hat and then began to smile
He says unto his mother "See, God assists your child
They spoke to one another and they found her perjury
The villian was guilty and Fr. Tom set free.

This song was forbidden to be sung, I have been told.
