    Long ago in this district before oil or gas was invented the people of this Country had to make their own light They did this by means of long rushes that grow in the bogs at the present day. They firsed pulled the rushes and dried them in the chimney corner. When they were dried they peeled them. Then they got a large pan and melted fat or lard on it. They then rolled the peeled rushes in the fat and took them out to let them dry. When they were dry they burned brightly and that served the people with light till the tallow candles were invented That is the story of rush candles.
