My mother told me about the rush candles of long ago.
These were the lights they used long ago. Rushes were got in bogs. They were peeled and six were plaited together. Grease was melted in a pan and the rushes were put in and left to harden. There was a special candle stick for them. I never saw a rush candle stick but Rose Nugent says they have one in her house.
