All birds build a different kind of nest in a different kind of place. The robin builds quite near a house, and I have seen a robin's nest in an old kettle in the garden. The blackbird and thrush build in the low hedges. The crow builds in the top of our tallest trees.
The number of eggs that each mother-bird lays differ. The wren lays as many as ten eggs. The robin lays from four to six white eggs speckled with red; the finch's eggs are pale grey in colour speckled with purple. The thrush lays from four to five beautiful blue eggs with tiny spots all over them.
We should all love our feathered friends and not harm them or their young although some boys take delight in robbing birds' nests.
St. Brigid and St. Columcille were so gentle that the birds came and ate from their hands.
