- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)catapults. They made them by getting a forked stick and tying two strings of rubber to each end of the fork, and then getting a piece of leather and tying it to the strings of rubber.
Girls made rag-dolls. They also made dolls houses. In my district they go by the name of "Baby houses" They used to make neck-laces from berries from briars by putting a thread through berries.
Another game was to make a cage of twigs or light cord and set it with a fork-stick under one side, and put some corn into it, and have a long fork attached to the fork stick. when the bird come to pick the corn, they pull the cord and the cage falls to the ground and so traps the birds.
Another great past-time with young people was to get a large turnip and scoop it out, and cut out the of a man face on it and put a bit of lighted candle inside a hat or cap on the head of it and leave it at a gate-way or some lonely spot on a dark night.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
