  1. In penal days the chapel of Dunshaughlin was situated in a field off Johnstown Lane and the field there is still called "Chapel Field". A thatched chapel is said to have existed here. A Protestant bigot named Cook is said to have leveled this old chapel about the year 1780. A priest named Fr. Fagan was P.P. of Dunshaughlin at this time and he finally succeeded in securing a site from a Protestant named Woods on which he built the chapel of Dunshaughlin for his grief stricken people. About the year of 1856 an attempt was made to destroy it but those who tried it did not succeed.
