The farmhouse belonging to James J Dunican at Cloghan Ardcath is very old and stoutly built. It must be there hundreds of years and roof and thatch are well preserved. In olden times it was called 'The Big House of the Cloghan.'
When the Yeomen were searching the district about 1798 they surrounded the house and a shot fired through the (?) window adjoining the hall door (?) the window, press on the floor side and the wall behind it. It was only about 1860 the press with the bullet mark left the house.
