It was a float or crib cast bearing a chest of drawers which would be full of linen. This would be sent from the young brides home to the young mans. It is still a custom for a bride not to go to her home for a month after the marriage, and on the fourth Sunday she goes to Mass in her own chapel and so on to her parents home for the first time after she marriage. This is called the monthly visit. Then also a bride should wear something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
