- In the parish of Kilshanny there is a lake named "Lough Goller". The lake was not always there. It is said that there was a spring well there long ago. The well it was said used cure some disease. It is said that a woman came to wash clothes in the well so as to cure herself of some disease. The the well flowed over and formed a lake. The well is in the middle of the lake yet.It is also supposed that a serpent was there and was chained to the bottom of the lake. The serpent used appear every seven years. A man in the townland of Ballyalla, named Michael O'Loughlin saw the serpent. He had a farm near the lake. When he saw him he was going to kill him. The serpent came into the farm.
