   of potatoes - even the headlands were full of potatoes. The man, Luke Hally, who foretold the bumper crop told the men that the "good people" of Tipperary and the "good people" of Kilkenny had started a fight some time previous up at Blocóg at Nine-mile-House. A big stone marks this particular place to this day. They kept on fighting and fighting until eventually they landed in Páirc an (-) and there they fought the battle out one night, and so whatever seed would be set in that field would yield a marvellous crop - which it did.

   
   A familly called Reeves lived also in this place. They are all buried in Kilcash graveyard. The family are not known in our time. In those days all the people around this part of Tipperary who were tenants of Lord Ormonde had to go to Kilkenny Castle to pay the rent. This man Reeves went once to pay his rent and whatever story he told the agent he succeeded in getting some reduction. With this money he bought three slips in Kilkenny and drove them home to Ballyknockane that night - which feat seems to have impressed the country people very much since they still relate the deeds as something out of the common.

   
   Ballyknockane is still called by some people Scrahán.
