    and he took refuge in Brittas Castle. The authorities heard that he was there and they sent a body of soldiers on horse-back to arrest the priest as well as Sir John.
    Sir John refused them admission to the castle. They laid siege to the castle and the siege lasted for fifteen days.
    In the meantime Fr Clancy escaped disguised as an old woman, and Bourke made his escape also.
    Sir John managed to get as far as Carrick-on-Suir, but the lady in whose house he lodged betrayed him. He was arrested, and brought to Limerick, and in a short time he was executed at Garryowen, he died a martyr's death earnestly professing his faith. He was buried in St John's
