  1. Cross Country were played long ago. The population of a Parish was bigger then than what it is now. So on that account the two teams were selected from the one Parish. (at that time there would be about twenty men in a team) The two teams came together and the ball was thrown into their midst. Then the play began. The teams had to try to kick the ball back to their own townsland. And the team that got the ball into their own townsland won the match. Usually often these matches , a wrestling match was played between the two strongest men of each team to see which man was the strongest.
