    arriving, the Bishop procured a horse for Brother Treacy, + sent him through the country collecting money to build a school. His work was a success, + before 1870, the site was bought + the school foundations laid. To Brother Treacy's efforts, we date the foundation or start of the Christian Bros. in Australia.
    He died in 1912 in Brisbane, + had the privelege of seeing his old pupils, heads of schools _ Monasteris all over the Commonwealth, - The good work to which he gave so much of his life, + all of his heart, had extended + flourished, beyond his most sanguine hopes. That his death was deeply regretted by the Australian public, irrespective of creed is one of the finest tributes that could be paid to his memory.

  2. The great novel writer & Irishwoman Julia Kavanagh, was the daughter of Morgan Kavanagh, - himself a writer, - and was born in Thurles in 1824. In her early life, she left Thurles with her parents, for Paris, where she was educated. We next find her in London, novel writing; she even wrote for the "Nation" newspaper, under Mr Gavan Duffy
