  1. Composed by the same person
December the 3rd being the date of the year
Young Nolan with his dog set out in good cheer,
Hoping to meet the Great hare of renown
That defeated all the best dogs from the town
He had not gone far when the wizard appeared
Young Nolan hurrayed and gave a loud cheer
Come now brave dog let your valour be seen
And place your decree on the Hare of Gurteen
Jime would not permit her to cross the River Suir
She swerved and crosed over Maher's big moor
But quicker than lightening the blood thirsty hound
Over ditches and hedges was still gaining ground.
The hare though being followed she cast bast an eye
And said 'With all my exertion he is still drawing nigh
He is fully determined my blood for to drink
But I'll see it out with him until the last link.
Young Nolan got back to his home about noon
And gave up the dog to trick Keeshan the Groom ,
Relating his doings and all he had seen
He had the Swag on his back the old hare of Gurteen
