- Shops are very common nowadays. They were not very common in olden times. Each shop was about five or six miles from each other. The shops were in the towns and cities. People used to have to go a long way to do their shopping. They used to purchase on Saturday. Goods were bartered before money came into use. When people wanted food or clothing they exchanged some of their property such as an ass a horse, a sheep, a cow, a calf or a goat etc. But this is now no longer done. "Boot" this is something given in addition, when articles that are exchanged are not of equal value. "Tangle" is often used. "Luck" is the amount of money given when an article is sold. Business was never held on 1st May or on 11th May. They used never sell, borrow or lend on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
