    St. Martin's day falls on 11th November. From 1st of Nov. until 11th Nov. it is the custom to kill a chicken or a fowl of some sort, spilling the blood in honour of St. Martin who was killed by a machine of some kind on that day.
    People have an idea that is is not right to work a machine of any kind until after 12 o'clock noon, on St. Martin's Day. No tractor or mill grinds corn in this district
    St. Michael's Day. A Michaelmas goose, taken in from the stubbles during Sept. is the first goose of the year, that is killed for use. It is killed in honour of St. Michael, and is reserved for the Sunday dinner occuring nearest to St. Michael's day, generally the Sunday following St. Michael's Day.
