The holy word of God
And oft upon the sacred floor

There the days were spent in teaching,

There the widow and the orphan
Were fed with generous hand
Its fame was known o’er road and plain
And by the rippling rills
In cottage and in mansion too

In heavenly peace did dwell
But soon there came a day of woe
For them a tale to tell;
When Sydney – man of evil deeds
Whose crimes were nothing less
Than those of his lynx-eyed mistress
Oft called the “Good Queen Bess”,
