- BUYING AND SELLING
Shops were not common in olden times but there and there throughout the parish were what were called huckster shops in which were sold the bare necessities - candles, when rush candles could not had, (when the supply failed) salt fish, salt. Buying and selling was carried on every day.
Money was not always given for goods. A system of barter existed and labour given in exchange for goods sometimes.
Horses were swapped and sometimes money given by one or the other in the exchange. This was called " [?] "
Goods were sold and indeed are still sold on "tick"
Pedlars and dealers in feathers and rags were numerous[?] in the past.
