The local Land-Lord was Mr Massy.

    Nellie Scanlan,
    Ardagh,
    Co. Limerick.
The local land-lord was Mr. Massy. He had been in the land many years. He was a very bad man. He made the people pay very high rent. He often put them out of their houses and lands. The people were very much afraid of him. They hid the meat and the butter when they thought he would come. Because if he saw them he would make out they were rich, and he would raise their rent. When the people sold their crops they had to give him a share of the money. It is said that his ancestors were settlers in the land after Cromwell's plantation.
    Told by my father.
