    Now many are scattered I am sorry to say
    While others are sleeping beneath the cold clay
    Some are in distant lands a living to gain
    Far, far from their homes on the road to the Lane

    And now to those scenes I must bid Good-bye
    To all my fond comrades, contentment and joy
    And when I am crossing the deep raging main
    It is then I shall think on the road to the Lane
