Local Songs
“God save you all my jovial friends,”
Local Songs. This poem was written by an unknown traveller who came to the village."Sweet Athea". P.J. Dalton. 1.God save you all my jovial friends, I'll sing a song to please you now.
To make you smile my song intends altho' I guide a farming plough.
I'm but an honest labouring boy.
For little cash I work each day.
My heart is always full of joy.
For I dwell near sweet Athea.Chorus:-
Come pledge a social glass with me.
To friends we know though far away.
And to the girls and boys.
That we respect and love round sweet Athea. 11
Where is the land so blithe and fair,
To make the poet's glowing dreams.
Your woods are green and soft the air.
And sweet the murmur of your streams.
Though other lands may boast of wealth.
Then let them flourish as they may.
We have happy times and rosy health.
And emerald hills around Athea.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
