It was the landlords of the area who caused it to be made - Richard Woulfe - Local Roads.There are names on old paths that ran from Toureen Downall to Athea - "The fairy path", and from Knocknagorna to Athea - "Cul boitrin" and "The mountain pass. - Peggy Sheahan."Cul boitrin" is sometimes called "The bean sidetrack"
