  1. There once lived near the old hall in Loughill, a man called Suil Dubh The Coiner. He was a noted robber, and highway man, and the terror of the travellers. Travelling in those days was not as easy as it is now. The roads were bad, and they, the people generally went on foot and horseback. Then of course it was an easy thing for thieves like the "Coiner" to pounc on his victims, to deprive them of their money, and perhaps murder them, if they showed the least resistance. His house was on the main road between Limerick and Tralee. What we now call the Main road was not then made".
    He used to collect lead and pewter, for the purpose of making his false coins. At one time
