  1. The people sought herbs as remedies for their ailments in former times.
    If a person had a toothache he would put a frog's leg into his mouth. If a person had a sore hand or a sore leg he went to a person that had a ferret. That person would take food to the ferret. When the ferret would have enough of food eaten the food would be taken from the ferret and rubbed to the sore leg or hand. If a person had thrush he would take goose grease to cure it. If a person had Ringworm he would the milk left behind by a ferret. If a person had a disease called chin cough he would crawl between a donkey's hind legs and then between its fore legs. Any donkey would not do. The donkey should be a mare and not less than ten years old. Remedies for other diseases were sought by crawling through an opening, under a rock or through a window or under a briar or through a
