  1. A great number of marriages take place during Shrove, It is thought unlucky, to get married in October, November, December, and during Lent. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, are the unlucky days.
    Sometimes confetti is thrown is thrown on the bride when the pair are coming out of the church.
    Matches are generally made in the district. Money is nearly always given as dowry. Stock or goods are never given. Long ago people used get married in their own house, but it is in the churches, they get married now.
