   were made of wattles plastered over with a composition made of yellow mud and rushes. In a house where the fire was in the centre, a hole was left in the roof to let out the smoke.

   The floors were made of well-tempered yellow mud. When well made, these floors proved very effective, but if care was not exercised in the putting down of the floors, they usually ran into holes in the course of time, and became dangerous to walk on

   Half-doors are common in this district even to day

   Turf was plentiful about thirty years ago. It was the only fuel used.

   Candles were made from tallow. At first candles were made by hand; such candles were called 'páideogs". Later moulds were used, and the
