  1. Long ago there were two weavers in Lyre district. A man named Seán Buckley was called the Figheadóir. People combed the wool in their own homes and after making it into "slameens", they spun it into thread with the Spinning wheel. The "slameen" was put on the spindle with the right hand and the wheel was kept spinning with the left hand. As the "spinner" (generally an old woman) went backwards and forwards barefooted on an old rug or shawl she lilted and old Irish song. The Figheadóir was a tall, active man and was very clever at throwing his shuttles. He made blankets and flannels and worsteds.
The other Figheadóir lived in Gort-cathaoir (Charlesfield) he was Domhnall Hartnett and was father of the first teacher of Lyre School (John Hartnett 1844)
