  1. I do not propose to go deeply into the actual fight itself as it has been dealt with already in Book I pages 135-138, but the seriousness of this tragic period in the story of the district could never be realised. The enmity roused subsided when the Land War grew in intensity and the political factions again revived it somewhat, for supporters of the All for Ireland League and the Irish Party were mainly the old Gearaltach and Daithíneach brigades. - The party animosity got another death-blow in the years 1919-21, but subsequent events again saw the old rivals ranged on the opposing 'camps'. In this year 1938 there is a spirit of fraternity and good-will, without any great impelling force like a Land War or Freedom movement, behind it. It is the outcome of wise and democratic rule - of good laws, of better acts, and of their impartial promulgation.
It is impossible to place the date of the beginning of this Gearaltach and Daithíneach Faction Fight but it was in being before 1850 for Fr. Edward Fitzgerald who was Parish Priest from 1844 to 1850 was styled Sagart a' Bhata and was a noted Gearaltach. He is reputed to have used his blackthorn with good ? effect on several occasions - but always on the Daitíneach boys].
