    purchases. Buying and selling was carried on after Mass, and this is still practised. There was cloth sold, and sometimes cattle.
    Every farmer came to the nearest town to sell a firkin of butter, and maybe a fat calf on Saturdays. They sometimes brought a box of eggs. Bartering goods was very common in the district.
    Sometimes farmers exchanged cattle and horses, and one might give money and an animal for another animal. They call that money, "boot".
    Markets were held in a field near a town or a village. They are still held there.
