- Long ago bought toys were very scarce in this district Kanturk. If the days were wet the children had to remain in-doors. While they were in-doors they made toys of wood, namely, boats, guns, tops and all sorts of toys.
The boys made dolls' houses and furniture for the little girls. The girls made the dolls for the houses. They stuffed the dolls with straw and very often the mothers knitted covers and frocks for the dolls. The boys also made various animals from wood. If they did them well they would often give them as a present or ornament.
Mothers made stuffed dolls and rabbits and sent them to poor children' bazaars. Boys also made boats and the girls stuffed small dolls for the boats as sailors. These are all gone out of fashion except(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
